Dr. Peter Smucker, along with Dr. Chelsea Burns (University of Texas at Austin), Dr. William O’Hara (Gettysburg College), Dr. Marcelle Pierson (University of Pittsburgh), Dr. Katherine Pukinskis (Amherst College), and William van Geest (University of Michigan), are featured on the latest episode of the Note Doctors podcast. The podcast, which focuses on music theory and music theory pedagogy, invited all six music theorists to discuss their forthcoming co-authored article.
Their colloquy, “Corralling the Chorale,” explores the roll of voice-leading in an undergraduate music theory curriculum through six different essays. Dr. Smucker’s essay, “Administering Pedagogy: Navigating the Institutional Impacts of a Changing Theory Curriculum,” focuses on how curricular changes may affect different institutional constituencies (students, faculty, and administration).
Their article is expected in the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy in early 2022. The podcast is available on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QASoXRZhWQQ), Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/note-doctors/id1530735460), and other podcast platforms.
