Stetson Music Alumnus Harry Rios Shares His Journey to the International Stage

Pianist, vocalist, and entertainer Harry Rios ’11 is featured in Orlando Voyager, sharing the musical influences, experiences, and creative vision that have shaped his international performing career.

A graduate of the Stetson University School of Music, Rios earned his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance in 2011, studying with Dr. Michael Rickman.

Growing up in New Orleans, Rios was immersed in a rich musical environment influenced by jazz, salsa, merengue, and popular music. His father, a professional trombonist who performed with legendary trumpeter Al Hirt, introduced him to live performance at an early age. These experiences helped shape the musical identity that would eventually define his career.

While developing his classical piano technique at Stetson, Rios was also performing jazz throughout Central Florida. Following graduation, he continued building his professional career through engagements at churches, restaurants, clubs, and hotels.

His musical journey eventually led him to the cruise entertainment industry, where he began performing as a piano bar entertainer before creating his own headlining stage production. Through these engagements, Rios has expanded his career internationally, performing for audiences aboard cruise ships.

His original production, Latin Beats on the Bayou, celebrates his Puerto Rican heritage and New Orleans upbringing through a distinctive fusion of Latin rhythms, jazz, and traditional New Orleans musical styles. As a pianist, vocalist, arranger, music director, and entertainer, Rios brings together his diverse musical influences to create engaging performances that reflect his artistic identity.

In his Orlando Voyager interview, Rios reflects on his personal and professional journey, the challenges he has overcome, and the importance of perseverance, creativity, and believing in one’s artistic potential. His career illustrates the diverse professional opportunities available to musicians who combine strong musical training with artistic versatility and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Congratulations to Harry Rios on his continued professional success and celebrates his accomplishments as a performing artist.
