Second Annual Stetson University Conducting Symposium Brings Conductors Together for a Day of Music and Learning

The Second Annual Stetson University Conducting Symposium brought conductors and observers from across the region to the Stetson University School of Music for a full day of conducting exercises, musical exploration, thoughtful conversation, and shared learning.
This year’s featured clinician was Dr. Nicholas Enrico Williams, Director of Bands at the University of Georgia, who worked closely with participants throughout the symposium. His insight, musicianship, and leadership provided conductors with valuable perspectives on gesture, rehearsal technique, musical communication, and the broader art of conducting.
A central part of the symposium experience was the Stetson University Symphonic Band, which served as the laboratory ensemble for participating conductors. Through rehearsal and podium sessions, conductors had the opportunity to work directly with the ensemble while receiving feedback and guidance in a collaborative setting.
The symposium also created opportunities for conductors, students, and observers to exchange ideas and perspectives, reinforcing the importance of continued learning and professional growth within the field.
The School of Music is grateful to symposium sponsors J.W. Pepper Sheet Music and Conn-Selmer for their support of this growing event.
Special recognition also goes to the students of the Stetson University Symphonic Band and to the Stetson Conducting Symposium Crew, whose preparation and behind-the-scenes work helped make the event possible.
Now in its second year, the Stetson University Conducting Symposium continues to grow as a meaningful opportunity for conductors to learn, collaborate, and engage with one another through music.
The School of Music looks forward to building on this momentum in the years ahead.
