José Simerilla Romero Performs at Bregenz Festival

Stetson University School of Music alumnus and tenor José Simerilla Romero recently performed the role of Alfredo Germont in Verdi’s La traviata at the Bregenz Festival in Austria. The production was presented on the festival’s celebrated Seebühne and featured the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
José has established an international career with performances throughout Europe, Asia and the United States. His recent engagements have included appearances with Theater Basel, Komische Oper Berlin, English National Opera, Staatsoper Hannover and the New National Theatre Tokyo.
His 2026–27 season continues with appearances at the Lyric Opera of Kansas, San Diego Opera, Prague National Theatre, the RTVE Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus in Spain, the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland and Teatro Cervantes de Málaga. The season concludes with José joining the Metropolitan Opera as cover for the role of Cassio in Verdi’s Otello.
