Danya Laverack Named 2027 Teacher of the Year

Florida Scholars Academy has named Danya Laverack its 2027 Teacher of the Year, recognizing her work supporting students in Florida Department of Juvenile Justice residential programs.

During the 2024–25 academic year, Danya guided 40 students to earn high school or GED diplomas, developed individualized academic plans for 890 students, and scheduled students into courses tailored to their needs, resulting in more than 2,100 course completions.

Danya earned her Bachelor of Music with an Outside Field in Education from Stetson University. She began her career as a school counselor in 2018 and joined Florida Virtual School in 2024 to work with Florida Scholars Academy. She was also named Florida School Counselor of the Year for 2022–23.

Her career demonstrates the many ways a foundation in music education can lead to broader work in student support, leadership, and educational access. The Stetson University School of Music congratulates Danya on this significant professional achievement.
