The inaugural Stetson University Conducting Symposium was a resounding success

We were honored to welcome participants from Florida, Alabama, and New York for an inspiring weekend of conducting exercises, collaborative music-making, and professional growth.

Led by Dr. Chandler L. Wilson, Director of Bands, the symposium created a space for meaningful connection, learning, and artistic exploration. A heartfelt thank-you to our featured clinician, Dr. Rodney Dorsey—President of the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, Professor of Music, and Director of the Wind Orchestra at Florida State University—whose expertise, leadership, and generosity elevated every session.

We’re also incredibly grateful to our sponsors, J.W. Pepper Sheet Music and Conn Selmer, and to the Stetson School of Music for their generous support in bringing this event to life.

A very special thank-you to the students of the Stetson University Symphonic Band, who served as the lab ensemble for our guest conductors. Their musicianship and professionalism were truly the heart of the symposium. This also provided an incredible educational experience for our students, especially in gaining firsthand insight into the art of conducting from a variety of perspectives.

Behind the scenes, the Stetson Conducting Symposium Crew worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly. We thank them for their commitment, time, and energy.

Everyone walked away inspired by the shared passion for the art of conducting and education.
