Stetson University Celebrates the Art of Singing at the Annual Giffin Voice Competition

Stetson University recently hosted the 2025 Giffin Voice Competition, a tradition that honors the legacy of Harold “Prof” Giffin, whose nearly four decades of teaching and mentorship left an indelible mark on the School of Music. This year’s event welcomed three distinguished judges: Dina Barone from the University of North Florida, Curtis Gulled Sr. from Orlando, and Dr. Isaí Jess Muñoz, Chair of Vocal Arts at Boston Conservatory at Berklee and President of the National Opera Association.

In addition to serving as Judge Chair, Dr. Muñoz led a compelling vocal masterclass and a workshop on audition techniques, offering invaluable insights to Stetson voice students preparing for professional opera auditions and the next steps in their musical journeys.

Emy Acosta (BMOF) was named the 2025 Giffin Competition Winner for her captivating performances of “Glück, das mir verblieb” from Korngold’s Die tote Stadt and “Despedida” by Grever. Kenneth Browning (BMp) earned first runner-up, and Emma Floyd (BME) was named second runner-up.

The Voice Area extends heartfelt thanks to Bobbie Giffin for her continued support and to Dean Washington Garcia for his visionary leadership. Congratulations to all the talented junior voice majors who showcased their artistry in this year’s competition!
