School of Music Trumpet Student Abigail Clouser Wins International Trumpet Guild Conference Scholarship

First-year trumpet performance major Abby Clouser has been announced as one of the winners of the International Trumpet Guild Conference (ITG) undergraduate scholarship.

Abby is a student under the tutelage of Dr. Aaron Witek, Trumpet Professor and Coordinator of Brass and Percussion at Stetson. Her selection for the scholarship follows a rigorous adjudication process, which involved the submission of recordings of two preselected pieces that were evaluated blindly.

Notably, Abby is one of two current students studying under Dr. Witek to receive this prestigious recognition. She shares this honor with a private student of Dr. Witek’s, who competed in the high school division and is set to attend Stetson University next year.

As a recipient of the ITG scholarship, Abby will receive a stipend and have her conference fee covered. Additionally, she will be presented with a certificate acknowledging her achievement. The opportunity to attend the conference holds immense value for Abby, both personally and professionally.

The ITG Conference provides a platform for students to engage with and learn from renowned figures in the trumpet community. Participants have the chance to participate in masterclasses, attend performances, workshops, and lectures, and collaborate with peers in the ITG student trumpet ensemble.

Abby’s attendance at the conference is expected to contribute significantly to her growth and development as a musician. It will provide her with invaluable insights and knowledge that she can bring back to her institution. Her success not only reflects her talent but also highlights the quality of instruction and mentorship provided by Dr. Witek and the Stetson School of Music.

Speaking about her achievement, Abby expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “I am thrilled and honored to receive this scholarship. I am eager to make the most of this incredible opportunity to learn and grow as a musician.”
