Grace Wieckowski Attends the NAfME Collegiate Leadership and Advocacy Summit

Grace Wieckowski, a first-year vocal music education major attended the NAfME collegiate leadership and advocacy summit in Washington D.C.

The summit was a 3 day event with sessions led by people who are on the forefront of music education. The final day consisted of NAfME’s Hill Day, an event where participants get to take on the US capital and advocate for the importance of music education and legislation that supports music education. During the event Grace got to meet and talk to many Florida representatives including Rep. Soto and Rep. Frost about Music Education, why it’s important, and how they can best help support music in our schools.

This event consisting mostly of collegiates and educators in upper level leadership positions from their state. Grace had the opportunity to network and make powerful connections not only across the state of Florida but across the country. During the event Grace got to connect with people such as Deb Confredo (current NAfME president), Jason Locker (current FMEA president), Kathy Sanchez (FMEA executive director) and so many more.

The 2024 NAfME collegiate leadership and advocacy summit served as a platform for Grace to expand their horizons for Music Education and start making connections that will forever serve their future career as a music educator.
