Choral Excellence Through Individual Assessment: Dr. LeFils Shines at GMEA

Stetson University’s Dr. Gregory LeFils, Jr., Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Education, was invited to present for the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) In-Service Conference with his clinic session, “The Power of Individual Assessment: Elevating Choral Performance and Student Achievement,” held on January 26th, 2024.

A large and engaged audience from the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) filled the Athena I/J ballroom to gain valuable insights from Dr. LeFils’ session. Music directors, educators, administrators, and musicians of all backgrounds came together to learn and share their passion for music education. 

“Effective assessment goes beyond assigning grades,” Dr. LeFils emphasized. “It’s about providing students with meaningful feedback that fuels their growth and elevates their choral experience.”

The session resonated with participants from various backgrounds, offering applicable techniques for elementary to college-level ensembles. Dr. LeFils’ focus on practical solutions sparked lively discussions and left attendees equipped to enhance their assessment practices, ultimately leading to greater student success.
