Sandra Shafer (’12), director of choral activities at Apopka High School, has been invited to present her advanced treble chorus, “The Belles,” at the Florida Chapter Conference of the American Choral Directors Association, October 28-30, 2021, at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
A panel of experts from universities, high schools, and other institutions reviews the numerous applications and selects the best choirs for these concerts. The application requires multiple years of near-flawless choir recordings and administrative success as a conductor. The audience will consist of only choral experts, so it is an impressive accomplishment for Sandra and the students she teaches.
Sandra is married to CJ Shafer (’12), also a successful teacher in Central Florida, who graduated from the instrumental side of Stetson’s music education program. While at Stetson, Sandra was a powerful student leader, student conductor, and soloist. She was a featured soloist during her time at Stetson on the Concert Choir’s album “A Candlelight Tradition.” Sandra taught middle school in Orange County before taking up post at her alma mater, Apopka High school alongside her own high school director, Linda Boot. Sandra had always said she was going to teach at Apopka High School after Linda Boot, and she never lost sight of her goal. Linda Boot left big shoes to fill, but Sandra is clearly up to the task as we see in this ACDA invitation. Sandra and CJ are the proud parents of Cadence, who will certainly grow up with an abundance of music in her heart.
Congratulations to Sandra!
